Rev. Nicholas Dark
November 2009
It’s all go at this time of year within the Church family but having said that it never seems to lighten up. As a Church leader I am extremely appreciative of all those who contribute in their time, gifts and resources to the life and witness of this church. I have tried to get around as many of the organisations as I can and as I have gone around it is tremendous to see just what is happening in and about this church. Some of that energy and life feeds into our worship particularly through are Sunday School, Jam Group and our Brigade Company.
In the month ahead we have a busy worship schedule and there is a significant input into the worship from both the Sunday School and the Brigade. On the first Sunday in the month we have Sunday School and Jam leading the Sunday’s Cool Service at 10.15. It is very encouraging to be part of that service as our leaders and children share their faith through word, drama and music. If you haven’t been along, why not come along on either the 1 st Sunday in November or the 1 st Sunday in December. It is a relaxed, informal service followed at 11.00 approx by Hot Chocolate and Muffins in the church hall. If you’re coming for the 11.30 service you’re welcome to come early for coffee as well. The Sunday School team are currently looking for volunteers for the coffee rota for that service, and if you would like to help please let Glynis Greenfield know.
On the 3 rd Sunday in November, the15th our Brigade Company will be coming into Church for their enrolment service. Please do come along and support them on that day. As a parish it’s a good opportunity through our presence there to acknowledge the work of our Brigade Company and show our appreciation for all that they do.
As I have mentioned both the 1 st and 3 rd Sunday’s in November I cannot leave out the 8 th November and our Remembrance Service. I have always found this particular Sunday very challenging and I think in no small part it is the shear scale of what we remember that is so difficult to comprehend. There are also the ties of family, those who have served in the past and a niece who is currently serving her country. This year not only do we remember the wars of our grandparents and great grandparents but we have witnessed through our television screens the conflict in Afghanistan and the devastating impact upon the lives of serving members of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and their families. Within the pages of this magazine there is a short account from the 1 st World War of one mans life, Edward Mockler, and his life story is reason enough to stop and pause, to remember the sacrifice of generations past and to commit ourselves once again to the pursuit of peace and justice.
Turning to the later part of November I would urge you to come out and support the Events Committee as they organise a Christmas Bazaar. The date set is the 28 th November. All the usual stalls and much more! If you would like to get involved . there are plenty numbers in the magazine section you can contact to offer your help.
Finally I would remind you that the Sunday School, Jam and Brigade are there for the children and young adults in our church family. Please do pray for our dedicated team of leaders and if your child it not involved it’s not too late for this year just contact the Leader in Charge.
Grace and peace to you
Nicholas
