Pyramid Rock

When was it happening?

You will have read that our Holiday Bible Club was taking place D.V. during the week on Monday, 14 to Friday 18 August from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and was aimed at children of primary years of age.

Over the summer months the leaders met to prepare themselves and the material for 'Pyramid Rock' Those of us on the side lines were urged to pray for the leaders and the children. And the weeks went by. And holidays came and went.

Suddenly it was all happening! On Sunday, 6 August we were invited to pray for the Bible Club especially each night when it was taking place. And during the week we heard news of a BBQ on Friday, 18th August which was open to families and friends (Couldn't miss that!).

On Sunday, 13th August the pace hotted up! A big banner greeted us as we approached the church! The Leaders T Shirts arrived on the scene! A Welcome Poster was displayed in church for us all to sign to welcome children from the neighbourhood into our church!

Holiday Bible Club Leaders

Pyramid Rock was upon us!

On the Monday evening the children were greeted in the porch of the hall by the smell of bread. Sacks of baps, crusty loaves and scones were displayed beside sacks of grain, palm trees and pyramids. Inside the hall leaders waited to welcome the children amidst pyramids, craft materials and a book stall. Outside prayer partners circled the church praying for God's blessing on the leaders and the children and the sound of lively music and singing wafted on the air.

The theme 'Pyramid Rock' based on the story of Joseph, was aimed at introducing the children to a loving God through the stories and experiences of Joseph and to encourage them to put their faith in a faithful God as Joseph did. They also heard how Joseph's experiences of God are also the experiences of Pyramid Leaders because of their faith in Jesus Christ.

Feedback from Holiday Bible Club

The Holiday Bible Club was a great success this summer. Approximately sixty children attended and they were led by a great team of leaders and helpers.

The Holiday Bible Club activities were based around the story of Joseph and therefore had an Egyptian theme. The aim of the club was to help the children to see that they should put their faith in Jesus just like Joseph did.

Every night the children were welcomed into their groups before taking part in a packed night of activities. The children who came along soon got to know their leaders and made new friends quickly.

We warmed up every night with DANCING DINAH and the children and leaders soon got to know the PYRAMID ROCK theme song and dance. Captain Ketchup introduced us each night to some special visitors all the way from EGYPT, we had Simeon, Potiphar's servant, the Cup Bearer and then Joseph arrived on Friday night. The children all enjoyed listening to what these special visitors had to say.

As the night progressed we also had a stop at the OASIS for some refreshments. The children really looked forward to this part as it gave them that much needed energy to complete their worksheets and jotters. We also had crafts, games and a DVD telling another part of the story of Joseph each night. The children made some beautiful masks, plaster models, bookmarks and picture frames. Each night came to an end with the children singing the memory verse and praying.

Pyramid Rock ended on the Friday evening with the children coming in Egyptian costumes to enjoy a table quiz and a barbeque. Many of the children's parents and grandparents also came along and enjoyed a great evening.

It was a very busy week and we were all very tired by the end of it but we all worked very well as a team and built good relationships, the children also built good relationships with the leaders and with each other. It was very worthwhile and was a great way of introducing new children to the church, for some children the Holiday Bible Club may have been their only link with church.

The team would like to thank all those who supported them in many different ways, making PYRAMID ROCK the success it was. A special thanks to Bronwen and Jacqui who led the team and did a lot of organising and planning behind the scenes.

"To the Leaders of Magheragall Church of Ireland Holiday Bible Club"

Dear Leaders,
I would like to thank you for letting me be a helper at the Holiday Bible Club.
I really enjoyed my time working along with the Leaders and working with the young people.
It was great encouragement to see so many young people attend the Holiday Bible Club and I hope next year's Holiday Bible Club will be as successful as this year.
Yours truly, John

To the Leaders

Thank you!
I really enjoyed going to the Holiday Bible Club. I hope to go next year.
I really enjoyed the activities and people coming to visit us from Joseph's life. I also enjoyed the games and group work including the DVD.

How we remember it.

We liked the Egyptian art work and paintings. The bread in the porch was good too and although we could not eat it we had fun sniffing it and poking it.
Another good thing was the book stall. It was well stocked and we bought bouncy balls and the pencils. We especially liked the people who came from Joseph's country. Our Mummy was Pharaoh's cupbearer. They were very good and we learned a lot from them each evening.
We learned some new songs and sometimes we find ourselves singing in the car or on a walk one of the songs which we learned, 'I just wanna be a sheep, baa, baa, baa'.

Thank you to all the Leaders.
Jonathan (aged 10) and Matthew (aged 7)
